Upcoming Changes to the Permit Process

Effective January 3rd, 2011

The Engineering Services Department will no longer issue same day permits.
All permit applications must be reviewed and approved by Engineering construction staff before issuance. Engineering staff will have up to 72 hours from the time of drop-off for review and processing. Permits will be ready to pick-up after 2 p.m. on the third business day.

In order to expedite your application, please make sure that your application packet contains all of the following documents and that they are completely filled out:

  • Application
  • General/special conditions
  • Site drawing indicating existing conditions and showing the proposed improvements to take place in the public right-of-way/easement.
  • Estimate/proposal signed by the customer or homeowner
  • Sub-contractor letter with address matching the application (for paving and concrete work)
  • T1 OHSA permit (for trenching only)

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

The Engineering Services Department will also be revising the requirements for insurance and cash bonds. We expect to have our changes implemented within the first quarter of the 2011 calendar year. Please continue to check this page for future updates. If you have any questions about the new application procedures, please call the Engineering Services Department at 510-307-8091.
