Outstanding Parks and Recreation Facility
Nicholl Skate Plaza
The first phase of the Nicholl Skate Plaza was completed and opened for use Wednesday, October 21, 2009. The design of the skate plaza was developed through community input and the assistance of the youth that planned on becoming not only users but stewards of the plaza area. In an effort to create a skate plaza that was not your typical concrete slab, the project concentrated on utilizing the existing trees. The grand opening coincided with the official City of Richmond Arbor Day Celebration and with the help of Mayor Gayle McLaughlin and a variety of skateboarding youth, 6 additional coastal redwood trees were added.
