Commission

The Commission is designed for an 11-member capacity. The Commissioners, all volunteers, are appointed by the Mayor of Richmond with the concurrence of the Richmond City Council to serve four-year terms. New applicants who wish to become active advocates for the arts in the Richmond community are encouraged to apply for vacant seats. Commission meetings are also open to the public.

Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC)

Current PAAC Members:
    • Dayna Holz

Executive Committee

Purpose: Provide leadership for Commission Activities

Activities:

    • Advisory body to staff and commission regarding funding and budget proposals affecting the commission
    • Review and assess all applications for services supporting the work of the commission with appropriate committee input
    • Ensures that all outside requests/demands made of the commission follow consistent procedures and are professionally communicated
    • Sets agenda for meetings
    • Reviews grant allocations and public art contributions

Program Planning and Evaluation Committee

Purpose: Service Delivery

Activities: Assist in planning, advising and evaluation of community arts programs:

    • Symphony
    • Festivals
    • October Event
    • Artist of the Month recommendations
    • Art Displays

 

Develop Volunteers Bureau to:

    • Pass out flyers
    • Set up for local arts events
    • Public Art Maintenance
    • Neighborhood Alliances
    • Support neighborhood projects

Publicity/Marketing/Advocacy

Purpose: Public Communications Vehicle

Activities: Develop action plan and implement on-going campaign to increase awareness and develop partnerships in support of local arts and culture programs targeting:

    • Education
    • Business
    • Arts Organizations and Agencies
    • Media
    • Elected Officials
    • Civic Groups and Agencies
    • Youth and Seniors
    • Community at large

Optimize & utilize advocacy research data and delivery systems:

    • Database of Arts Organizations
    • Website
    • Arts Registry
    • Speakers Bureau
    • Slide Presentations

Strategic Planning and Commission Development

Purpose: Internal Operations for Commission

Activities:

    • Establish goals and measurement tools for commission effectiveness
    • Assess and revise mentoring program for new commissioners
    • Develop commissioner orientation process and user friendly materials
    • Identify professional development opportunities to increase commissioner effectiveness
    • Provide process for communication by and between commissioners
    • Assist committees in establishment of priorities
    • Organize Retreats
    • Working with other committees, develop content
    • Ensure commissioner development and education opportunities.
