Housing Counseling Agencies
In addition to the five agencies that are part of HEPA, there are many other HUD-certified counseling agencies locally that provide a variety of services.

ACORN Housing 
ACORN Housing is a national non-profit agency that has been providing free housing counseling to low- and moderate-income homebuyers since 1987. They've opened HUD-certified, Fannie Mae-approved housing counseling offices across the US. If you are behind on your loan, a housing counselor may be able to intervene on your behalf with your lender in order to come to a resolution that will ultimately bring your loan current. Our HELP program has established relationships with 28 major lenders in the U.S. in working out repayment plans, forbearance plans, loan modifications, refinances, and partial claims. ACORN Housing's mortgage delinquency counselors are here and ready to review your situation to find out if you would be suitable for a resolution. Call the toll free HELP line at 888-409-3557. Community Housing Development Corporation

CHDC is a community-based nonprofit affordable housing developer founded in 1990. Its mission is to provide permanent and affordable housing in North Richmond, primarily for current and former residents of the community. Their Homeownership and Asset Building Program is designed to help low- and moderate-income potential homeowners address barriers to homeownership. CHDC is a HUD-approved housing counseling agency. Housing Rights, Inc. 
Housing Rights, Inc. was founded in 1979 by a law student who could not find housing because she had young children. Their mission is to fight for equal access to housing for everyone by eliminating barriers to housing choice, such as discrimination, sub-standard housing, ignorance, apathy, and malice. Their goals are to eradicate illegal housing discrimination, prevent evictions / foreclosures, and encourage diversity in our neighborhoods. They do this by assisting individuals in exercising their housing rights to obtain and maintain the home of their choice and by promoting understanding by tenants, landlords, housing consumers, and housing providers of their rights and responsibilities through housing rights counseling / advocacy, education, outreach, investigation, mediation, self-advocacy, legal referrals, and enforcement of fair housing laws.

Lao Family Community Development
The Lao Family Community Development offers programs and assistance for South East Asian refugee and immigrant communities, as well as for other low income communities, to adapt to life in the United States and to achieve social and economic self-sufficiency. Services include a HUD-certified Multilingual Home Ownership Center.

Money Management International

Money Management International is a HUD-approved housing, counseling, and education service provider. Their Housing Services focuses on various needs such as buying, financing, maintaining, and protecting your home. They also provide services in Personal Credit Counseling, Debt Management Services, Financial Education, and Bankruptcy Services. Money Management International (MMI) and its family of Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) agencies make up the largest nonprofit, full-service credit counseling agency in the United States.

Mt. Diablo Housing Opportunity Center
The Mt. Diablo Housing Opportunity Center (MtDHOC) is a project of Housing Rights, Inc. (a HUD-certified housing counseling agency) and is a collaboration of many local and regional interests. The Center’s mission is to ensure equal access to the information and resources necessary to guide successful housing choices for all members of the community. They offer a one-stop shop for members of the community to come to for help with a wide variety of housing problems and goals / desires.

Pacific Community Services, Inc. 
Pacific Community Services, Inc. is a private non-profit housing agency serving the Contra Costa and Solano County communities since 1974, PCSI has been assisting clients with fair housing counseling, default and delinquency counseling, and tenant / landlord disputes. Trained housing counselors are available to counsel both tenants and landlords on their rights and responsibilities under federal and state fair housing laws.

The Tri-Valley Housing Opportunity Center (TVHOC) provides information regarding private sector lender programs, funding sources, and homebuyer pre- and post-purchase education, helping match those in need with programs and services that benefit them most. Working regionally, the TVHOC offers a comprehensive counseling and education program that will expand mortgage credit opportunities and increase homeownership in the Tri-Valley region.
