Effective August 5, 2010, restaurants and other food providers in Richmond must use only paper, compostable, or aluminum to-go boxes, cups, plates, bowls, trays, and cutlery.

Which products are not acceptable?
Styrofoam and plastic food ware may no longer be used for food prepared in Richmond.
Who is required to comply with the ordinance?
Any business, organization, or individual serving prepared food to the public in Richmond. This includes but is not limited to restaurants, mobile food vendors, delis, gas stations, nonprofit organizations, public events, and City facilities and events.
