Energy performance - The building was designed to exceed minimum energy efficiency standards. Civic Center has high performance heating and cooling systems, insulation, and windows. Energy efficiency lighting was installed and occupancy sensors shut off lights when offices or conference rooms are not in use.
Onsite renewable energy - Photovoltaics were installed on City Hall and the Auditorium. Their combined output provides 15% of the Civic Center's electricity or 175,800 kWh per year. This is equivalent to 139 tons/year of CO2 emissions avoided or 23.1 passenger vehicles removed from the roadways.
Water conservation - Water consumption has been reduced by 46% compared to that of the previous City Hall. This was achieved by installing low-flow fixtures for sinks and showerheads, waterless urinals, and dual-flush toilets.
