 EPA Hazardous Materials Training
In 2009, RichmondBUILD partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to offer training in Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) operations, emergency response and abatement. The goal of this training is to prepare local residents to obtain jobs in these sectors in Richmond and throughout the Bay Area.

As of 2012, over 175 individuals have received training and over 75% have found employment utilizing their Hazmat skills and certifications. RichmondBUILD has helped many participants to escape unemployment or underemployment and become more financially stable.

Graduates are certified in:

  • OSHA 40-hour Hazwoper
  • Asbestos abatement
  • Lead abatement
  • Mold awareness
  • Confined space entry

Graduates from the RichmondBUILD-EPA Hazmat training have gone on to work at numerous “brownfield” clean-up sites, including Mira Flores, located in Richmond, CA. A partnership with the Asbestos, Lead and Mold Laborers Union, Local 67 in Oakland, CA provides graduates with access to high-wage work.
