Richmond Food Census

6.24.16 Website Banner
Beginning in the summer of 2016, volunteers from the Mayor's Office will be visiting markets throughout Richmond to collect data on the various types of food available to our residents.

Purpose

The purpose of the Food Census is to collect data from local markets to assess the types of healthy food available to residents. The Census will also identify types of services store owners need in order to increase supply of more nutritious food options.
Mission
The mission of the Food Census is to provide a wide variety of healthy and nutritious food options to all Richmond residents.

Goals

  • Publish a comprehensive list and map of food retailers that shows the availability and affordability of healthy food options to the public.
  • Explore policies and programs intended to increase access to healthy food options based on data collected from the Food Census.
