The Richmond Police Department created the LGBTQ+ liaison position, in conjunction with Richmond Rainbow Pride to provide a helpful point of contact and friendly resource to the LGBTQ+ community.
The liaison has the ability to address community concerns, provide enhanced communication, and foster a healthy relationship between law enforcement and the LGBTQ+ community. These efforts are both internal and external. The liaison also has the responsibility of providing ongoing, updated training for current employees.
The Richmond Police Department’s main focus is to cultivate trust within the community, so that community members feel safe and confident in reporting the issues that may be affecting them. The LGBTQ+ liaison is an advocate for positive change regarding community engagement and receptive to community concerns.
