About the Snow Ball

For 67 years, the  Snow Ball has been a hallmark of December in Richmond, a celebration woven into the city's history. Conceived by the City of Richmond and nurtured by the Community Services Department, it has recognized exceptional high school students who embody both academic excellence and civic dedication from all over the West Contra Costa School District. Through a rigorous selection process, students with a minimum GPA of 3.5 and notable civic contributions have been chosen to represent their schools. 

Stepping into the future, the 2023 edition introduces an exciting innovation: Student Co-Mayors for a Day. This inaugural event will be hosted by current Richmond Mayor Eduardo Martinez who will honor the Snow Ball King and Queen for a day while learning about the day-to-day life of a Mayor. As the Snow Ball transforms this year for the scholarship, the significance of your contributions to the scholarship fund holds more weight than ever before. In these evolving times, we call upon your generosity to ensure the legacy continues. Together, we pave the way for the next generation.

How to Apply

We are seeking outstanding seniors with academic achievement of a 3.5 cumulative GPA, community dedication, and talent to compete for our $2,500 scholarship!

The winning Snow Ball scholarship recipients will be honored during an annual scholarship ceremony and will be honored as our inaugural Student Mayor of Richmond for a Day in 2024!

 Applicants are due Thursday, November 1, 2023, at 11:59 P.M. The online portal will close.
