RICHMOND, Calif., -- Mayor Tom Butt will be leaving November 27 to attend the Climate Summit for Local Leaders as part of the Compact of Mayors, a global coalition of city leaders dedicated to taking climate action. Mayor Butt will meet in Paris with other cities and mayors to demonstrate their commitment to making communities more resilient to climate change, reducing their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and regularly reporting their progress publicly.

The City of Richmond is celebrating the completion of a new, key facility capital improvement project that will eliminate certain sanitary-sewer overflows (SSO) during extreme rainfall and prevent potential system backups. During periods of heavy rain occurring over a 24-hour period, Richmond’s wastewater treatment plant was unable to process the additional wastewater flows, causing SSOs into the Richmond Inner Harbor.
