Accessory Dwelling Unit Workshop
Date: Wednesday, February 28, 2024
Time: 5:30 – 7:00 PM
Location: Nevin Community Center, Richmond, CA. 94801
Join us to learn about the benefits of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and discover how to build one on your property. We are also looking for your feedback on our upcoming pre-approved ADU plans, which will be made available free of charge to Richmond residents.
What is an ADU?
An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), often called “in-law units” or “granny flats”, is a small additional residence on your property. Usually located in the backyard or on top of the garage, a person can live in an ADU without needing access to the main house, meaning the ADU has full bathroom facilities, cooking area, and sleeping area.
Why ADUs?
ADUs can provide rental income on a property you already own. They can provide increased housing availability in your neighborhood and can also be a source of affordable housing.
What's the Workshop?
The City of Richmond is developing a simplified process to reduce your costs and help you build an ADU if you want one. Come learn about the new process. To reduce design and permitting costs, two pre-approved ADU plans are being developed by the City. Come give us your input on the pre-approved plans to make sure they work for Richmond residents. You'll be able to use these plans for free in the near future.
This workshop is supported by the California Strategic Growth Council's Transformative Climate Communities Program.
