Join us at tonight's City Council Meeting: Status Update on the Richmond Health Equity Partnership & Development of Health in All Policies
December 18, 2012
Meeting begins at 6:30PM
Council Chambers, 440 Civic Center Plaza

On Tuesday, December 18th, City Council meeting, the Richmond Health Initiatives team will provide a status update on the Richmond Health Equity Partnership, and seek direction to develop a Health in All Policies Strategy and Ordinance (Item M-3).

By unanimous vote on February 7, 2012, the Richmond City Council adopted a resolution accepting a grant from The California Endowment (TCE) to implement the Richmond Health Equity Partnership (RHEP) and authorizing the City Manager to enter into all required contracts and agreements to facilitate the grant outcomes. The City of Richmond is currently in month ten of the RHEP, a two-year partnership between the City of Richmond, Contra Costa Health Services, West Contra Costa Unified School District, and University of California, Berkeley Professor Jason Corburn to advance health and health equity in Richmond, funded in part by The California Endowment. A deliverable of RHEP is Health in All Policies, a collaborative approach with the goal of improving health equity by addressing the social determinants of health and integrating health into decision making processes across all departments of the City. Staff is requesting approval by the City Council to develop a strategy and ordinance to implement this program.

Richmond’s Health in All Policies is an innovative local strategy that seeks to reverse health inequities by addressing structural and institutional racism. Richmond may be the first city to develop and implement a detailed, local Health in All Policies Strategy and Ordinance.
