Recreation & Parks Commission 
Acts in an advisory capacity to City Council and departmental Director in all matters pertaining to recreation and parks and cooperates with other governmental agencies and civic groups to advance sound recreation and parks planning and programs. Meetings held the first Wednesday of the month (via Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic as of February 2021) in the City Council Chambers, 440 Civic Center Plaza, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

Commission On Aging 

The Commission on Aging was established in 1979 to comply with the mandate of the Older American's Act.  The purpose of this Commission is to improve and develop programs, services and opportunities for the elderly within the City of Richmond.  To this end, the Commission identifies the problems and unmet needs of the elderly in the community.  They then enlist the interest and participation of individuals and organizations to assist in resolving these problems and needs.  In addition, the Commission coordinates actions which improve the resources for seniors in housing, health, leisure time, rehabilitation, transportation, employment, social and volunteer services. The goals of the Commission is to promote health and wellness among the senior community and advocate and promote public awareness of senior interests and concerns.  The Commission sponsors an annual Senior Night Out and an annual Senior Winter Ball.  It also sponsors educational workshops and trips in addition to its advocacy work.  There are 13 members on the Commission who are appointed by the Mayor and ratified by the City Council.  Commission meetings are held on the first Friday of each month from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at City Hall.

Richmond Friends of Recreation

 (RFOR)

The "Richmond Friends of Recreation" is a community based non-profit organization, established to encourage a wider public interest in Recreation and to promote the use of recreational facilities. RFOR provides assistance and support for Richmond citizens and their recreational programs and facilities. RFOR Board of Directors meets quarterly at the Chamber of Commerce. Richmond-Shimada Friendship Commission

 (RSFC)

Established by Council resolution March 12, 1962, RSFC furthers cultural and economic cooperation and understanding between Richmond and Shimada, Japan through approved exchange activities. These include: student ambassadors, English teacher, cultural ambassadors, group visits, social gatherings, and fund raising. General Membership is open to all service, social, religious, educational, business, and fraternal organizations and private citizens. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month in the City Hall, Shimada Room from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
