Looking to build leadership skills this summer while making a real impact in your community?
New Voices Are Rising (NVR) — part of the Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment — is now accepting applications for the 2026 Summer Climate Justice Leadership Academy, a 6-week hybrid (in-person + virtual) leadership program for Bay Area youth ages 14–18.
This opportunity is ideal for students interested in:
- Environmental careers
- Public health
- Community organizing
- Policy & advocacy
- Climate justice
- Urban planning
- Social justice leadership
What You’ll Gain
Participants will:
- Learn about air quality, food justice, housing inequities, and water access
- Participate in in-person and virtual field trips

Only 20 students will be selected for this highly competitive program.
Who Should Apply?
Students ages 14–18 from Oakland, Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, Pittsburg, Antioch, and surrounding Bay Area communities — especially those from neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by pollution and environmental injustice.
This is a high-commitment summer program, and accepted participants are expected to attend all scheduled sessions.

Berkeley Lab – K-12 STEM Education & Outreach
Berkeley Lab’s A-LIFT (Accelerating Learning for Innovative Futures in Technology) Pre-College Programs provide high school students with hands-on STEM experiences designed to build professional skills, expand networks, and prepare for college and careers.
These programs focus on experience-based learning for students in grades 9–12.

Richmond Nutrition Education Youth Ambassador – Summer 2026 Cohort
Explore a career in community nutrition, public health, and food justice while gaining hands-on job experience in Richmond.
The Richmond Youth Community Ambassadors Program, in partnership with Fresh Approach, is now recruiting for the 2026 Summer Cohort. This opportunity is designed for Richmond residents ages 18–25 who are interested in building skills in community wellness, nutrition education, and public health leadership.
Participants will receive paid workforce training, professional certifications, and real-world experience supporting community programs focused on healthy food access and nutrition education.
Program Details
- Position: Richmond Nutrition Education Youth Ambassador
- Location: Hybrid (community-based and remote activities)
- Schedule: Part-time, approximately 6–10 hours per week
- Program Dates: July 2026 – February 2027
- Compensation: $22 per hour
- Total Potential Earnings: Up to $6,336, depending on hours completed

Richmond Freedom School – Servant Leader Internship (Summer 2026)
Make a difference in your community while gaining leadership and teaching experience.
The Richmond Freedom School, a program of the West Contra Costa Public Education Fund, is now recruiting Servant Leader Interns (SLIs) for Summer 2026. This opportunity is ideal for young adults interested in education, youth development, community leadership, and social justice.
Servant Leader Interns serve as mentors, educators, and role models for students participating in a six-week literacy and cultural enrichment summer program serving youth in West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD).
Position Details
• Position: Servant Leader Intern (SLI)
• Program Dates: June 2 – July 31, 2026
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
• Location: City of Richmond (site TBD)
• Compensation: $25 per hour
• Paid Training Included
Participants will also attend professional training sessions prior to the start of the program.
Training Opportunities
Selected interns will receive paid professional training, including:
• National Training: June 2 – June 7 in Knoxville, Tennessee
(Travel, lodging, and meals covered)
• Local Trainings:
– Sacramento, CA (May – tentative)
– Richmond, CA (June 15 – June 18)
These trainings prepare interns to deliver the Freedom School curriculum and build leadership skills.
What You’ll Do
Servant Leader Interns will:
- Serve as classroom leaders and mentors for youth
- Deliver literacy-focused curriculum and enrichment activities
- Support students during breakfast, lunch, and daily programming
- Help lead afternoon activities and field trips
- Promote civic engagement, cultural pride, and community leadership
Who Should Apply
Applicants should be:
- 18 years or older
- At least one year post–high school graduation
- Interested in education, youth mentorship, or community leadership
- Energetic, responsible, and comfortable working with groups of children
- Strong role models who want to give back to the Richmond community
Program Impact
The Richmond Freedom School program serves WCCUSD students who have completed grades TK–7, providing:
- Literacy and academic enrichment
- Cultural and leadership development
- Healthy meals and snacks
- Field trips and enrichment activities
The program prioritizes serving students in the Kennedy family of schools, African American students, and Richmond residents.
