The Richmond City Attorney’s Office serves as the City's chief legal counsel. Our mission is to provide quality legal services to the Mayor and City Council, as well as to City departments and City boards and commissions.
The City Attorney's Office is responsible for:
- Providing legal advice to the City Council, Mayor, City departments, and boards and commissions
- Drafting and reviewing ordinances, leases, resolutions, contracts, and other legal documents
- Representing the City in litigation, administrative hearings, and other legal matters
- Overseeing all work done by outside counsel on behalf of the City
- Assisting the City in negotiating complex legal agreements
- Attending meetings of the City Council, Planning Commission and other City boards and commissions
